Safety is everyone’s priority and when it comes automotive which they own, they are assumed to be always safe because the vehicle is engineered by a reputed organization.
How the organization gained the trust and how it ensures that the vehicle will not create any hazardous situation to the user.

Any part or component inside a modern day automotive is considered to be developed with state of art technology and standards which are ensuring the safety of the customer or user of the vehicle.
One of the most important standard which contributes on larger extent to achieve that goal is ISO26262 – Functional safety for Road vehicles. This standard is the bible for every vehicle manufacturers which will be embedded in their company processes as blood and veins.

This standard consists of 12 parts which documents the requirements and guidelines for every development step in development V cycle. These 12 parts includes guidelines for passenger cars, Commercial vehicles(Trucks and Buses), Two wheelers and the semiconductors used in this vehicles. This standard doesn’t cover for the off road vehicles and heavy earth movers.

This standard has two revision.
1. 2011
2. 2018 – This is the latest version which is in practice.

This standard covers system, hardware, software and production of electronic components. This standard is only for ensuring safety or avoiding hazardous situation which are caused by the failure of electrical and electronics in the vehicle. This doesn’t cover for any other system in the vehicle.

As a safety expert, I follow this standard to the T in all aspect to ensure that safety is achieved and all the hazardous causing failures are mitigated by reaching to safe state of the affected system.
